Elephant Ivory is derived from the tusks of the African
Elephant. Prior to 1986 it was obtained from elephants in
African National Parks which died from natural causes, or
were culled from the herds. Due to corruption in a small
percentage of these parks, the United States banned importation
of Elephant Ivory in 1989, following guidelines set forth
by The Convention on International Trading in Endangered
Species CITES. I fully support this treaty.
Following rules of the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife, it is
legal to own, buy, sell or ship Pre-Ban Ivory which was present legally
within the United States prior to 1989. Documentation will be gladly
shown upon request.
The piano keys which I engrave are from antique pianos; U.S. manufacturers
have been prohibited from using ivory for keys since the 1950's. I purchase
the keys from piano restoration companies.
Other forms of legal ivory used are from Mammoth, Warthog, Mastodon,
and Walrus.
