I'm Pete Driscoll, a professional scrimshaw artist; welcome to my website. If the word "Scrimshaw" is a new word to you, I define it as engraving (by hand) on any form of antique or fossilized Ivory. My specialty is creating a custom scrimshaw work of heirloom art, just for you! This art form is truly one-of-a-kind, unique, and rarely found today. Call today for a Free Quote!
As you browse through the categories of my work you'll see that I work on many different subjects. Many have been suggested by clients over the years, and I welcome your ideas too; you can do the same! Just use the Contact the Artist button at the top of each web page to make it easy.
But first, let me tell you a little about myself, and the work I do. My training and career as a commercial lithographer taught me skills related to doing detailed work on lithographic film that was used to make printing plates. This hand-eye dexterity is invaluable in the process that is employed to make scrimshaw, i.e., engraving - by hand - the various forms of antique or fossilized Ivory.
I've been "scrimshawing" full time for nine years, and have produced more than 1,700 original works of scrimshaw. They may be found in private and public collections throughout the US. You will find many works on this web site, in several different categories. Most are for sale, in stock and ready to ship; others are shown as samples that have been commissioned and are sold, but they will serve as examples of my work. My hope is that they will inspire you to ask me to create one just for you. Should you need a unique gift for that "special person," or for yourself, please contact me for a free quote, and to place an order.
My specialty is creating a custom scrimshaw work of art, especially for you. It will be an heirloom Corporate or Personal gift, unique - the Original American Art of Scrimshaw! Priced from $25.00 and up.
